Clinical Mental Health Counselor
Helping individuals and couples to get unstuck
I help people who have anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and relationship problems. I specialize in person-centered psychotherapy, and am trained in psychoanalytic and trauma-informed approaches. I also help couples in high to moderate distress to reduce conflict and to connect to each other in desired, fulling connection. Both individual and couples therapy can reduce anxiety and depression and improve quality of life.
Specialization and approach
My approach is warm, compassionate and accepting. I completed certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. I also use Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. My approach includes a focus on the mind, body, and spirit of the person and on emotional and relationship needs and longings as well.
The therapy I do involves not only talking but also other specialized ways to work with the parts of self that have trouble talking about or expressing both intense and numb feelings that may be felt in the body and heart, not just in the mind. Starting or restarting therapy is a big step and potentially can lead to life changing benefits and transformation.
Education and Professional Associations
I have PhD in counselor education and supervision from Oregon State University. I completed the Master’s in Counseling (M.Ed) program at the University of Utah in 2010 and have an undergraduate degree (B.S.) from the University of Utah (2004) in psychology, with a minor in sociology. I am licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the State of Utah (license #7699104-6004).
I am a past president and member of the Utah Mental Health Counselors Association (UMHCA) and am a member of the American Mental Health Counselor Association (AMHCA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), the Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW), and the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).
